DARC OV P08 DXpedition to the Isle of Man - Part 2
Due to other commitments I was not able to visit the guys every day, so although I have named this day 2 it is in fact a few days later…
A bit of a cloudy start to the day on the drive to Eary Cushlin
Rainer Sins (DG5SBK) working hard on HF with Eckehard Maier (DO2ETM) handling the logbook (UcxLog)
Eckehard (DO2ETM) listening out for the callsigns whilst Rainer (DG5SBK) pulls out the calls from the airways.
Guenther (DG1SBU) adding more contacts to the logbook on another band.
There is always a hot coffee and good company available with this crew. Here is
The guys working through contact after contact as the whole week just seems to be one pileup after another.
Eckehand (DO2ETM) getting me back with his own camera.
Rainer (DG5SBK) playing radio at Eary Cushlin
The guys used a projector to display the logbook on the screen allowing them all to see how good they were doing during the DXpedition.
So it's a little messy, it's a DXpedition and just needs to be functional
Rainer (DG5SBK) basically manned the station most of the day
The dining room at Eary Cushlin was a good place to chill and relax and talk radio
Essential Supplies
The DARC and the German Flag flying over Eary Cushlin meant they were here to stay and make the most of the good conditions
Eckehard (DO2ETM) adding the Manx Flag to the others and raising them over Eary Cushlin
Rainer Sins (DG5SBK) getting some fresh air away from the radio
Eckehard Maier (DO2ETM) taking a walk around the grounds outside Eary Cushlin
Claus (DO9BC) in the hot seat with Rainer (DG5SBK) logging, and that's Achim (DG3SAD) having a rest on the comfy seats
As a side note, the guys from OV P08 used a great little program for logging called UCXLOG, which has some really outstanding features and I cannot recommend enough, great for Multi-Station and Contesting and has a lot of features that you would not expect.
Going for the sexy designer look, relaxing on the chair and sporting a copy of the latest CQDL Magazine was Erwin Kleiner (DL6SBN) with Legs!
Claus Bense (DO9DB) in the hot seat whilst Rainer Sins (DG5SBK) manages the logbook
Both Rainer (DG5SBK) and Claus (DO5BC) posing for the camera, they are Ham Radio tarts!
There are not too many things that are nicer for us Amateurs than the warm glow of a large valve linear
The guys from OV P08 really operated this station in style, the nice warm surroundings, comfortable seats, remote location and great company really made the DXpedition to the Isle of Man a great event.
During the DXpedition, they made audio recordings of all the radio work so that they could make sure that they had not miss heard any callsigns, a nice idea!
I am now retired and living on the Isle of Man, my background is as varied as it gets, ranging from Information Technology to Graphic Designer and 3D VFX Artist, using and teaching Autodesk Maya, Softimage, and Smoke, one of more enjoyable positions. Since Moving to the Isle of Man I try to keep myself to myself and work on the house, I don't do much with regards to Amateur Radio or Electronics anymore, but I am still interested in the hobby and may well get back into it one day....
