Citizen Band (CB) Radio Frequencies

Most of us have at least heard of CB radio, thanks to classic films such as ‘Convoy’ or the bad press that it use to get many years back, but most of us Amateurs started of with CB radios of some sort or other, I for one have some very fond memories of the good old days of AM, SSB radios and driving around chatting and avoid the police which if I remember rightly use to really hate any car with a DV27 or K40 mounted on the boot.

The good days of CB radio have long since gone, making it legal helped ruin it by allowing kids to be abler to afford cheap 40 channel radios that had started to flood the market, you could even go to Halford’s, Tandy’s and Woolworth’s at one point and pick up a cheap set.

For a while those with the nicer radios (usually heavily modded by third class ‘Rig Doctor’s’ as they were called enabled most serious CB’ers to move to illegal frequencies on FM and SSB often referred to a ‘High High’, ‘High’, ‘Low’ and ‘Low Low’, those where the days!

There are still a few people out there on CB, and the old CB’s are now very collectable, especially if they are un-touched.

The 80 CB channels (40 EU/CEPT and 40 27/81) are now license free (as of the 8th of December 2006).

Any one wishing to use these channels only needs to use ‘type approved’ radio equipment.

No license or paperwork is required.
